Walling Contracting balers span a paddock at Opio during a massive day on Wednesday when they got through 4200 bales.

A rural contracting company cranked out 4200 bales on an Opio property on Wednesday as the catch-up after a sodden Southland spring continues. Ben Walling, from Walling Contracting of Spar Bush, said the company took 4600 bales off the property in total, starting on Tuesday night, with about 400.

The next day staff overseen by operations manager Richard Kincaid worked through to about 11.30pm to achieve the day’s whopping figure. It was the largest amount of baleage they had done in a day and likely to be the most done in a day in the region, he said….
